Basic
Handgun Handling and Marksmanship (BHHM) Series 1,2,3
Prerequisites:
BHHM 2 or equivalent (subject
to instructor approval) and must be legally capable of attaining an Indiana
‘License to Carry Handgun Permit’1.
Goal:
Progress the student from Skill Level 2 to Skill Level 3-4.
Description: BHHM 3 introduces the student to most
common failures associated with today’s auto pistols and the ‘immediate action’
for each. It will be approximately 30%
lecture and 70% live fire. The class
will begin with a review of the 4-rules, mindset and a detailed examination of
the malfunctions:
1.
‘Click’
instead of a ‘Bang’
a.
Empty
gun
b.
Improper
reload
2.
Mushy
trigger
a.
Stove
Pipe
b.
Double
Feed
3.
Immediate
Action Drill (with movement)
a.
Tap-rack-assess
The students
will be practicing these techniques in fun friendly environment, where the
instructors will offer suggestions and corrections. We will set up various malfunctions so the
student can recognize them and apply the appropriate response.
Once the
students become familiar with the failure modes and immediate action drills,
they will be expected to ‘solve’ their problems safely and quickly.
Performance Objectives:
Upon completion of BHHM 3, the student will be able to demonstrate an
understanding of the lecture materials by:
- properly executing the 4-count
presentation with movement
- re-loading their handgun, quickly, with movement
- satisfactory marksmanship at 5-10 yards, multiple shots
- recognizing the failure modes
- apply the appropriate immediate action (with movement)
- satisfactory marksmanship at 5-10 yards, multiple shots
- demonstrate strict adherence to the 4-rules while on the range
Keep in mind that this is only a 4 hour course and there is only so much that can be covered is such a short time. The students are not expected to master these skills in the first class but, merely take away the proper mechanics so they can practice them correctly on their own.
